Abstract:
This data set represents slope values derived from interferometric synthetic aperature radar (IFSAR) Star 3i IFSAR elevation data acquired in November of 2001. Data roughly cover the counties of San Mateo and Santa Cruz in California, and are contained in 30 files delineated by quadrangle (see Supplemental Information). Slope values were calculated in percent rise.
Purpose:
This data set was created for inclusion in the "Salmonid Recovery Planning Information Resource for San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties" project. The intended use of this data set in this project is to examine landscape or human factors to assist in decision making about salmonid recovery and habitat restoration.
Supplemental_Information:
This data set includes 30 files of slope data that cover the study area of this project (the watersheds that lie primarily in San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties in California). The data files are geographically representative of 1:24,000 United States Geological Survey (USGS) quadrangles. The following slope data files align with the following quads:

5-meter digital elevation models (DEMs) were used to derive slope values for each of the 30 data files that covered the study area.

The coordinate system of the original DEMs was UTM WGS84. The vertical datum for each file was transformed from WGS84 to NADV88 using the Recalculate Elevation Values function in ERDAS Imagine. The the horizontal datum of each file was transformed from WGS84 to NAD83 using the Reproject Image function in ERDAS Imagine. The data files were then converted from ERDAS Imagine format (.img) to GRID format using the Import/Export module in ERDAS Imagine 8.6.

Elevation data were then converted to slope (in units of percent rise) in Arc/Info using a script written in Arc Macro Language. Using AML operators, the slope values were rounded to the nearest degree.
